'''James Peggs''' (1793-1850), along with William Bampton, was a pioneer of the English people|English General Baptists missionary to Cuttack, then-capital city of Orissa, India|Orissa, to evangelism|evangelize Odia people(''present'' Odia people). As a pamphleteer, he extensively circulated the Pilgrim tax levied on Idolaters going on pilgrimages and horrible practice of Sati (practice)|Sati in then-Bengal, soliciting the notice of Britishers justifying the Colonialism and Evangelism among the Paganism#Heathen|heathens—not Christians nor Jews.
